CHAPTER 10

DAY 10

It’s mid-morning and Kyle is sitting alone in the empty breakroom of the Center for Biodefense.

Kristina enters the breakroom and sees Kyle.

Kristina makes a cup of coffee from the coffee machine.

“You never told me what Alonzo said to you,” says Kristina to Kyle.

Kyle takes a sip from his coffee cup.

Kristina grabs the coffee cup from the machine and puts some cream and sugar into her coffee.

“He seemed pretty freaked out when I saw him yesterday,” says Kristina to Kyle.

“I bet,” replies Kyle.

Kristina takes a sip of her coffee and looks at Kyle.

“What’s wrong with you?” asks Kristina.

Kyle looks down, and he thinks about how to answer Kristina.

Kristina sits at the table that Kyle is sitting at and asks, “What’s fucking wrong with you? Why are you mad at me?”

Kyle glances at Kristina and then looks down at his cup of coffee.

The lack of communication by Kyle is really pissing Kristina off.

“Just tell me Kyle,” says Kristina.

“Alonzo told me that you kissed him yesterday,” says Kyle.

Kristina stands up from the table and starts laughing.

Kyle looks at Kristina and asks, “Did you?”

“I’m going to kill that little piece of shit,” says Kristina.

“Did you kiss him yesterday?” asks Kyle to Kristina.

“No! No! He tried to kiss me and wanted me to leave with him!” shouts Kristina.

Kyle feels a small sense of relief after Kristina’s answer, but Kyle also feels anger towards Alonzo.

“How could you ever think that?” asks Kristina to Kyle.

“I would never cheat on you. Let alone with that little troll,” says Kristina.

“Why would he lie?” asks Kyle.

“Because he’s a piece of shit and an asshole,” answers Kristina.

Kristina kneels down next to Kyle and says, “Babe. Look at me.”

Kyle looks into Kristina’s green eyes, and Kristina looks into Kyle’s blue eyes.

“I did not kiss Alonzo, and I never would cheat on you. I love you and Kaden more than anything. You two are my whole world and I would never jeopardize that,” says Kristina.

“I’m sorry I questioned things, but with all this crap going around I didn’t know what to believe,” replies Kyle.

Kristina puts her right hand on Kyle’s face and says, “I love you babe.”

Kristina kisses Kyle.

Kyle and Kristina exit the breakroom with their coffees and Kristina says, “You got some major stubble going on there.”

“I haven’t been able to let my facial hair grow this long before,” replies Kyle.

“I like it. You should let it grow out,” responds Kristina.

Kyle and Kristina walk over to Kaden and Kristina says to Kyle, “I hope Kaden is doing alright. He’s been just laying around the past couple of days.”

Kyle and Kristina walk over to Kaden, who is laying on an air mattress on the floor next to a desk.

“Did you get me anything to drink?” asks Kaden.

Kyle tosses a small bottle of orange juice to Kaden.

“Is this all they had?” asks Kaden.

“Yeah, we are starting to get low on supplies here,” answers Kristina.

Kaden sits up on his air mattress and looks at Kyle and Kristina.

A loud bang and crash is heard from inside the lab.
